| Steven is a San Jose native who began his career as soon as he could stand, captivating his family with his infant version of "The Twist". His first official performance was at age 4 and he has virtually never left the stage since. |
| Having received a guitar from his grandfather at age 6 he started his music education. This continued with picking up the trumpet at age 10 and beginning stage performances and singing at age 11, starring in 4 Musical Theater productions. |
| At age 13 he saw a schoolmate and her sister playing guitar and singing for a school function. At this he thought: "THAT's what I want to do!" and brushed off his nearly-forgotten acoustic and re-taught himself to play, often practicing 7 hours a day.
In college, Steven began to focus on songwriting. He performed on local radio and was a featured vocalist in the UC Marching Band's televised halftime show in 1975 as well as the group's annual Spring shows, culminating in being the main featured vocalist in the band's 1976 Bicentennial tour of the U.S., playing 23 cities nationwide.
| Leaving Cal after 3 years, Steven started performing as a singer/songwriter in the San Francisco Bay Area. Heading South for Los Angeles, he continued to play in various acoustic venues there. |
| Moving to LA opened up other opportunities, including: starting the Barbershop Quartet "Pacifica", selected as the top new quartet of the year and qualified for the West U.S. Championships. He also performed in the "Hollywood Chorale", representing the city of Hollywood in the form of a 16-voice jazz choir. Steve performed for a few months in the country band "Grand Junction" as acoustic guitarist and lead and backing vocalist and appears on their one release "You're Not Alone". |
| In 1983 Steve agreed to take on directing the vocal quartet &quo;Augmented Fource"" and continued with them for the next 7 years. The group performed a versatile repertoire of jazz, barbershop, Xmas carols and rennaisance music all over Southern California. During this time he picked up bass guitar and started performing with a variety of top-40 bands. He also came into demand as a backing vocalist for live and studio performances, doing vocals for 6 albums and another single "Far Away Lands" recorded by platinum-record songwriter David Pomeranz and Russian pop star Sasha Malinin. He backed up Edgar Winter for his performance at the LA Street Scene in 1986, as well as doing backup vocal duties for a number of other international stars such as 60s legend Melanie, Jazz master Chick Corea and Austrailian pop star Kate Ceberano. |
| Steve returned to the stage not only as performer but as a songwriter, writing 4 songs and being a featured performer in a musical review based on the book "The Way To Happiness"". This show had two runs, one in 1987 and another in 1989. He also wrote two songs for the unproduced musical "Thief In the Night", which also included songs by multi-platinum songwriters Harriet Schock and David Pomeranz. |
| In 1990 Steve began a long run on a Caribbean Cruise Ship. During his 16 years there he was Music Director, bassist and male vocalist of the house band and created, wrote songs for and performed in various musical reviews and stage presentations. In keeping with his versatile nature, he also learned pop instrumentals on acoustic guitar and performed these in the dining rooms and for other receptions, did singalongs, and performed as a solo guitar/vocalist in various venues around the Ship. |
| The Ship Band also performed off-board, doing countless free concerts, benefits and fundraisers. He performed with a variety of International performers in styles ranging from Latin/Caribbean to Jazz, Rock, Blues and Funk, developing skill in all genres as well as becoming a quick study, picking up songs and styles in remarkable time. Steve worked with, among others: Caribbean stars Bibi Provence, Debbie Beaujon, CC Shaw, Tamara Marshall, Debbie Beaujon and Michele Henderson; Mexican stars Amanda Miguel, Diego Verdaguer, Felipe Gil and Johnny Laboriel; Venezuelan Telenova star Ruddy Rodriguez; British composer and music educator Duncan Lorien; 70s Pop star Maxine Nightingale, International jazz performers Tommy Brechtline, Randall Courson, Roy Louis, Boo Hickson and John Novello; and Rock idol Billy Sheehan. |
| The band peformed at the St Vincent Blues festival opening for Oleta Adams, and at the St Lucia Jazz Festival, following pop star Rhianna and followed by Kenny Garrett and Babyface. |
| Returning to San Jose in 2007, Steve has quickly established himself in the music scene here, performing at numerous Bay Area acoustic venues, as well as larger events such as the 2007 Earth Day celebration, where he performed at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in San Francisco. In keeping with Steve's versatility, he joined up on bass with a Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute show and classic rock band, played rhythm guitar with rising country star Shawna Lynn and continues with her as a songwriting partner, as well as participating in various jazz combos, vocal groups and whatever else happens to look fun. He has also continued his commitment to the community, performing at Relay For Life, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, local community centers and for other benefits and charity concerts. |
| What people remember from seeing Steve perform, apart from his clear, strong voice and easy certainty on his instruments, is his sheer love of music and performing. He loves what he's doing and it shows. And you will too. |
